The Imitation of Christ
Sunday, October 26, 2008

" Jesus today has many who love his heavenly kingdom but few who carry his cross; many who yearn for comfort, few who long for distress. Plenty of people he finds to share in his banquet, few to share his fast. Everyone desires to take part in his rejoicing, but few are willing to suffer anything for his sake. There are many that follow Jesus as far as the breaking of his bread, few as far as drinking to cup of suffering; many that revere his miracles, few that follow him in the indignity if his cross"
- Thomas a 'Kempis', The Imitation of Christ

thought it was so true, and that i belong to the vast majority who seek the good stuff but try to escape dealing with the bad. (While i was uploading this the connection actually failed on me, spiritual warfare at work)
I pray that this will touch your heart.
Perhaps consider what 100% looks like. Consider why is it that we have knowledge but not the heart to acknowledge, the heart to believe.

photo from one of the exhibitions at central promontary site. If you look closely, besides the obvious drawing, the wooden 3D model of the drawing and my sister looking at it is reflected too:) coolness. [did this with a 3.2 megapix N72. no need SE 5 megapix phone. muahaha]

my sister standing in the midst of an artwork. can't remember who did it or what it's called, but its a 1000 slippers of ex-convicts. part of the yellow-ribbon project i think.

woah. that's one week of school gone. exhausted today after nearly turning to fossil at the photocopier. heh. i sure hope i didn't breach copyright laws. this morning i was complaining to all and sundry (actually just mag and cher) about how today was just not my day. missed the train, nearly caught the 169 but was turned away by the SMRT staff cause the bus was full. and when finally the bus came and everyone boarded the bus, some guy had to come along and force his way onto the bus, oblivious to a long long queue remaining. He got agressive. Wonder what triggered that? normally people dont get agressive for missing the bus. But anyway, we were all herded off the bus onto another, and i decided that i should just take 911. haha. Reached MFT after trudging through some potholes in the grass while looking for the entrance.

but. but. things were better after meeting mags. prayer works? and dg today was great! prayer works.

i have this strange craving for ba chor mee. haha. really. despite being conned after paying 3 bucks for a bowl that does not satisfy, i'm still craving for ba chor mee. Plus i ate a rather satisfying dinner at Chong Pang. still hungry. aye.
i feel the tiniest bit inspired after watching facing the giants. liru went all the way to yishun to borrow it. :) I think i learnt that if you pray for rain, you should prepare yourself for rain. learnt about 100% too. It's easiest to hang on when you're full of energy, but what counts is hanging on when you're tired.

was watching this monkey love story with mum the other day. It was funny- about forbidden love between a temple monkey and a street monkey. caused a riot between the both clans and romeo had to skip town. It's a documentary! haha. and no, i'm not making this up. One of the scenes was romeo and juliet having a date in a sunflower field.
Friday was way cool. Went swimming with ness. She had a tan and I didn't. Life's not fair.
Rode in the Singapore Flyer for the first time! Chermain patiently explained all the sights to me. ahahaha. Really, the view is different up there and when it's moving. May bank looked translucent in the night sky. And then there were a field full of cranes covering where the IR will be. Too bad the sky was too cloudy to see clouds clearly. Had spendid dinner at an indian restaurant. Was slightly marred by mosquitoes. Man, i hate them. I loved the dessert though- ranks right next to glutinous rice balls in rice wine. The best was getting to spend time talking to cher. In busy school days, it's hard to really have a good conversation with anyone, without school work creeping in.
Was down at IDP with XL and becca today. haha. it was funny. cause i lied again. Pretended i was Miss XL with fabulous grades and enquired about commerce degrees. Becca said that i wasn't too convincing. lols. We had pizza and swensens after that. Didn't know swensen's had nice milkshakes.. ahh the finer things in life all compressed in a few days. I better make up for it.
I have been Boom De yada-ing for the past few days. and have had sam and ness watch it over and over again with me. ehee

If my heart has grown cold
There Your love will unfold
As You open my eyes to the work of Your hand
When I’m blind to my way
There Your Spirit will pray
As You open my eyes to the work of Your hand
As You open my eyes to the work of Your hand

Oceans will part nations come
At the whisper of Your call
Hope will rise glory shine
In my life Your will be done

Present suffering may pass
Lord Your mercy will last
As You open my eyes to the work of Your hand
And my heart will find praise
I’ll delight in Your way
As You open my eyes to the work of Your hand
As You open my eyes to the work of Your hand

i'm emo-ing. like seriously. I should probably stop listening to Oceans will part. i wonder if my heart has grown cold.

i'm trying to be diplomatic as i tackle the issue of the card. "people tell me to do, i do." Uncle L said one day as me and Lee Mei tried to get him to do as assessment. He seemed visibly agitated- one of his lucid moments i guess. Whether the matter was true or not didn't really matter. They say that persons with dementia might not remember details, they might not remember your name, but they remember the feeling.. the feeling of whether you treated them with care and respect or the lack of it. Maybe one day if i get dementia i might remember drawing. I hope it comes with happy feelings. i can't draw. i really can't. my work comes from all over the place. the things i see, the feelings i get. but nothing original i suppose. the nicest drawings are those that aren't forced, those that i draw because well, i think i want to draw for her/him. And this time i feel horrid cause no one will appreciate the late night effort, they might even be complaining why i'm so last minute at getting them to meet earlier. lols. it is funny i guess.

time for bed finally. i'm done with it. two pieces. plus a couple of letters. that took an hour. hurray!

busy days

After going khad's house on thursday, i have longtong cravings. Which i will dutifully satisfy on Sunday at my aunt's house.
Uni application seemed easier the previous time round. i see money fly for chopped papers. thank goodness school photocopying is cheap?
Happy birthday cheryl mums. we must meet up again. And then we can go to that crepe place and eat crepes as dessert.

Walked around City hall area for the Singapore Biennale. It's worth every single penny of the $5 ticket. (that's the half price for students). Started off at the City Hall. Never stepped inside, but now that I have, it's a bit scary, knowing that the place used to be a place that sentenced petty thieves and hard-core criminals. Some of the art work displayed are creatively nice, some are eccentric and some are a combination of both. It took us 2 plus hours just to walk around the exhibitions at the City Hall. Will put up photos when becca sends it over.

We made a huge round to get to the South Beach development. We made a brief stop to use the toilet at Esplanade. That was uber funny. considering that the place was just across swiss hotel. It was hot though! walking around the city area that has few trees and lesser shade with a bright Mr Sun, i could feel even my toes burning. I guess the most memorable art work was this area of soap created by an indian artist. Can't quite remember his name. His art work could be smelt all over the place, even hit us before we stepped into the place. I liked another one where a local artist drew a room full of lines. Its a bad description for what he did. Have to see if for yourself.

Popped over at ness house to complete what was supposed to be Dr Uma's pressie. long story.. anyway, today, finally bought that thing that has caused me sleepless nights. Got to eat lunch with Ah Yee too! haha. it was supposed to be a snack, but was quite stuffed after. i declare that i kinda like rice wine.

saturday! one more week.

running

"save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate"
As I burped prawn linguini for the 7th time as i jogged along, rah the slob was telling me to give it up. She said that I was crazy to be running a second round. But rah the monster made it! 35 minutes of cardiovascular exercise! yay to me. Mr moon is easier on the body than mr sun, and it's no less dangerous. i imagined for the hundredth time that the bus parked along the road might have someone waiting to jump out to catch me unaware. heh. and so i go faster and pray harder.
Met Godma tonight and we talked over spagetti. It was more of me talking really. i don't really remember her telling me stories of her travels or work. She just listens to my woes and just encourage me.
went shopping with my SM and bought dresses. It's plural. DressES. oh my. please remind me dearly to wear them.

This lullaby is only a few words
A simple run of chords
Quiet here in this spare room
But you can hear it, hear it
Wherever you may go
I will let you down
But this lullaby plays on
